Investing in the Future (2009 and 2010)
GIC was asked by TIGA to lead the response to the call for evidence for a cultural tax credit in 2009's Digital Britain. GIC (in collaboration with Osborne Clarke) developed a strong case for the cultural value of games, quantified the decline already affecting the UK's development sector, charted the potential growth from a tax credit and set out the mechanism for a cultural test for UK games. GIC updated the report with statistics from our census of British games companies in October 2010.
Using a survey of senior games industry figures and external financiers, GIC analysed the impact of a tax credit for cultural games on the UK games development industry. The report was published as part of the evidence presented to government and the Treasury supporting the introduction of a UK games production tax credit.
