Commercial strategy development
We specialise in understanding and communicating how games companies of all descriptions make money, particularly in the burgeoning area of networked gaming.
We work closely with clients to profile their capabilities, risk appetite and intellectual property assets and then collaboratively build detailed strategies that address the most appropriate games platforms and commercial models for their IP portfolio.
We often work through hands-on strategy workshops which we devise, conduct and from which we harvest concrete strategies.
We have provided the following to multiple clients:
• IP audit, valuation and exploitation strategy
• Resource mapping and planning, including internal vs. external production
• Strategy audits
• Strategy workshops with key commercial staff
• Market entry planning in detail including commercial models, financial modelling and business case preparation
• Value chain modelling
• Editorial policy planning
• Business development planning and partner identification
• Marketing methodology for retail and network gaming
• M&A and investment target identification
• Contract negotiation assistance

THE KEY AREAS OF OUR STRATEGIC AND MANAGEMENT CONSULTING WORK ARE:
|
CASE STUDY Client: International media owner Date: 2007-2009
Brief: GIC first wrote a report on the games industry for a board level executive of a major international media owner. GIC was then asked to conduct weekly half-day strategy workshops with 15 key senior management staff over 10 weeks, producing a multifaceted 3 year strategy including target demographics and games platforms, initial projects on multiple games platforms, financial forecasts, timetables with key deliverables and resource allocations. Time frame: Initial 4 week report delivery, 12 week workshop planning, moderation, delivery and results write-up. Deliverables: GIC delivered a 60 page report profiling the global games market, value chains, development process, commercial models and partner company profiles. GIC conducted an audit, of the client's IP by games platform and commercial model, and presented market entry strategies, operational structures and platf orm priorities tailored to the client's strategic goals. GIC then planned, conducted and moderated an iterative series of 10 strategy workshops introducing key client executives to the games market, eliciting and short-listing major themes of interest, working through demographic matches, generating and then filtering games project ideas, working through operational strategy and then creating an overarching games strategy. GIC wrote up the results for the Board.
Result: The Board adopted the recommended strategy, agreed to fund several major games projects, two of which are ground-breaking, large scale, high-value developments based around significant brands for launch in 2010. Links: Confidential |
